Pittsburgh Open Classic — Classic Paintball Takes Center Stage
There’s something different about classic paintball.
The sound of ten guns breaking at once. Players disappearing into the woods, Hyperball pipes and mounds. Communication echoing across the field. Long points where patience, movement and teamwork matter just as much as raw gunfighting.
This weekend, that style of paintball takes center stage as the Pittsburgh Open Classic returns to Urban Assault Paintball.
And ORDA66 will be there for it.
A Throwback to Paintball’s Classic Era
The Pittsburgh Open Classic was built to pay homage to the legendary tournament paintball era of the NPPL events of the mid-1990s through the early 2000s.
For players who experienced that era, the format brings back memories of a very different style of tournament paintball. For newer players, it offers an opportunity to experience what helped build competitive paintball culture in the first place.
This isn’t simply modern tournament paintball with more bodies on the field.
10-man is its own game.
More players. More communication. More lanes. More movement. More opportunities to make something happen—and more consequences when communication breaks down.
Teams will have to navigate three distinctly different environments: Hyperball, Mounds and Hybrid fields.
That variety is part of what makes the Pittsburgh Open Classic special. A team that looks dominant on one field may face an entirely different challenge on the next.
Friday Starts With 5-Man
The weekend has grown beyond 10-man, with Friday bringing 5-man competition before the main 10-man action takes over Saturday and Sunday.
Both Open and Amateur divisions bring together teams chasing the same objective: survive the preliminary rounds, make the cut and give themselves a chance to play for the top spot.
The Open field features established names, while the Amateur side brings its own deep lineup of teams looking to make a statement.
Then Saturday and Sunday, the numbers increase and the real classic experience begins.
Ten players. One field. One game plan.
Who adapts to all three fields?
Who communicates when everything starts breaking down?
And when Sunday arrives, who will be left standing at the top of Open and Amateur?
That’s why they play the games.
More Than Just the Tournament
The Pittsburgh Open Classic is also about everything surrounding the action.
Players hanging along the net watching games. Teams talking strategy between points. Old friends reconnecting. New friendships starting. Vendors showing off gear. Stories being told about tournaments from twenty years ago while another generation of players creates stories of its own.
That atmosphere is a huge part of classic paintball.
The trophies are impressive, but the memories surrounding them are what keep people coming back.
