From Player to Creator: Dan’s  Paintball Journey

Hello, fellow paintball enthusiasts!  
This week, we dive deep into the rich history of paintball with our guest, Dan Dervin from Odin Paintball. Dan shares his journey from a young player in Long Island to a key figure in the paintball community.  

🎙️ The Early Days  
Dan's paintball saga began in 1999 at a friend's birthday party at Cousins Paintball. What started as a fun outing quickly turned into a passion. "We came home and were like, 'Okay, that was very expensive, let's figure out how to do this again,'" he recalls. With their parents' support, Dan and his friends bought Tippmann 98s and even improvised with painter goggles before upgrading to proper masks.

🎙️ The Competitive Spirit  
As Dan and his friends played, they gravitated towards competition, forming teams and participating in local tournaments. "It was who you knew to get playing time; otherwise, you were just a regular walk-on," Dan explains. His competitive nature led him to join a local team, where he made lasting connections that would shape his career.

🎙️ Rising Through the Ranks  
Dan's competitive journey took off when he joined a team called Seven Below, where he experienced his first national tournament. Despite a rough start, their determination only grew. "We did horrible... but it was a rude awakening," he shares. They regrouped, trained with seasoned players from NYX, and eventually formed the Naughty Leprechauns, where they made a name for themselves in the East Coast paintball scene.

🎙️ The Transition to Creation  
Dan's journey didn't stop at playing. He transitioned into a creator role, contributing to the paintball community in new ways. As he puts it, "How cool paintball really is and how you can make a lot of friends... it's a small community, but a very good community."
